Hey, parents and guardians!
If your kid is using Metafy (or bugging you to try it), you probably have a few questions. Totally fair. It’s the BIG, BAD internet, and you want to make sure your child is protected.
Here’s the good news: Metafy was built with learning and safety in mind. It’s a place where gamers connect with top players to get better — through 1:1 and group sessions, content, and communities. This quick guide will walk you through what Metafy is, how we keep it safe for young players, and how you can stay involved without needing to hover.
What is Metafy?
Metafy is essentially an online tutoring platform for video games. It connects players who want to improve their gaming skills with expert gamers who act as mentors. It's like piano lessons or gymnastics - except it's League of Legends.
1:1 Sessions: Your child can take private lessons with an expert in the game of their choice. This happens via voice chat on Discord and online play – no in-person meetings or physical travel needed.
Events: Metafy also offers live group sessions where multiple players learn together from a Metafy Partner. The Partner or Creator hosts a live event, often, classroom-style, and occasionally invite participants to speak (with their consent). Most of these Events are recorded so you can revisit them as long as you're signed in to yours or your child's Metafy account.
Communities: Each Partner has their own community on Metafy (often linked to a Discord server) where fans and learners gather to chat, share tips, and celebrate achievements. It’s a moderated environment for enthusiasts – kind of like an after-school club or forum.
Guides: Partners create guides and video lessons that players can watch to learn at their own pace. These are usually curated and structured, providing a safer, more targeted learning experience than YouTube videos.
Metafy is used by players of all ages and skill levels. Our mission is to provide a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for learning in gaming – a place parents can trust, and players can thrive.

Our Commitment to Safety
Your child’s safety is our top priority. As gamers (and many of us are parents too), we know how online spaces can go sideways. That’s why Metafy is built to be safe, transparent, and accountable—so you can trust your child is in good hands.
Who Can Offer their Services on Metafy
Anyone can sign up to host sessions, events, and communities on Metafy—that said, our Partners know their reputation is everything. Fans and learners leave public reviews, and if we get a report about someone crossing the line, we take it seriously. We’ve removed bad actors before and will absolutely do it every single time it's needed.
We can review all content posted on Metafy, including community interactions and chat logs. If a Partner says something inappropriate or a user reports a problem, we have the receipts—and we act fast.
Code of Conduct
We have clear community rules, and everyone—Partners and Players—are expected to follow them. Harassment, hate speech, or any kind of inappropriate behavior? Hard no. We draw the line at bullying and discrimination. We expect professionalism from our Partners, especially when working with minors. If someone behaves badly, they lose the privilege of using the platform. Simple as that.
Privacy
We strongly recommend keeping personal info private. Metafy Partners don’t need to know your child’s real name, age, or anything beyond their gamertag or Discord handle. All Metafy profiles use gamer handles by default. Payments go through secure payment processors—Partners never see your card or bank info.
Where Learning Happens
Right now, most 1:1 sessions happen on Discord—it’s where people screen share, hop into games, or talk things out. 👉 Learn how to create an account here.
Partners typically connect with students using Discord IDs provided at booking. But we’re working on bringing those sessions in-house through our Events feature, so everything will be handled directly on Metafy soon.
Community Safety
Many Metafy Partners run Communities that live on Discord. To access them, students link their Discord to Metafy. These servers are usually gated by roles (free members vs. paying supporters) and monitored by the Partner and their mods. Partners are responsible for moderating their spaces, and we encourage them to use Discord’s safety features like content filters and bots.
‼️ Important reminder: Discord is for users 13 and up. If your child is younger, we recommend managing the account yourself.
Reporting Issues
If anything feels off, report it. You can email support@metafy.gg or talk to us live from your Metafy homepage. Just go to your avatar in the left corner of your page and click "Support."
We’re fast and we’re firm. When someone breaks the rules, we investigate, and if necessary, we remove them from the platform. Grace, Ench, or Maki will be available to help you.
Payments and Sessions
All payments go through secure, trusted processors. Metafy Partners are held accountable for low quality content and sessions. There’s a full record of every booking and payment and we don’t allow off-platform transactions. Remember that the payment has to go through Metafy. We will not be able to help otherwise!
Parental Oversight
We don’t have formal parental controls yet, but you can still be as hands-on as you want. Some parents create the account themselves and manage everything. Others let their kid explore, but stay looped in by checking emails or popping into the first few sessions. Either way, you’re always welcome to message a Partner directly through Metafy’s chat to introduce yourself or check in.
At the end of the day, this is your kid’s experience, but we’ll back you up every step of the way. If something’s off, we want to know. If something’s great, we want to hear that too.
We built Metafy to be a place we’d trust for our own kids. And we’re not done making it better.
Tips for a Safe and Positive Experience
Tips for a Safe and Positive Experience
Here are some best practices to ensure your child’s Metafy journey is both safe and rewarding:
Get Involved from the Start: When creating the Metafy account, do it together with your child. Use an email you have access to. Set a strong password that you know. You can even put your name in the profile bio like “Account managed by Dad (John) for user (GamerKid123)” if you want coaches to know a parent is present – that’s optional, but some parents do that for transparency.
Choose the Right Partner: Spend time with your child browsing creators. Look at their profiles and reviews. Reviews will often mention if a Partner was great with younger players or beginners. Some Partners explicitly state they have experience coaching kids or that they focus on being beginner-friendly. If your child is on the younger side, you might prefer a Partner with a friendly, patient demeanor versus an uber-competitive, no-nonsense type. Also consider the time zone and scheduling – find someone who operates at times that fit your child’s routine (and yours, if you plan to supervise sessions).
Attend the First Session (or All Sessions): Especially for children under, say, 15, it’s a good idea to observe the first session. This could mean sitting in the same room while your child is on the call, or even joining the call briefly to say hello. Many Partners will not mind if a parent is quietly observing in the background (just let them know at the start). This gives you a sense of their personality and teaching style. After that, you can decide how involved to be in future sessions. At the very least, be in earshot if voice chat is happening, just as you would for any online interactions your child has.
Encourage Communication and Openness: Talk to your child about their sessions. Ask them what they learned, how they felt about the Metafy Partner, and if anything made them uncomfortable. Let them know they won’t be in trouble for speaking up – you’re just looking out for them. Sometimes kids might hesitate to tell a parent if something odd happened, fearing their gaming privileges might be cut. Make it clear that their safety is the priority and you’re on their team.
Set Ground Rules: Treat Metafy sessions like any extracurricular activity. Decide how often and when it’s appropriate to have lessons (e.g., “only on weekends” or “only after homework is done”). Also set expectations on spending – perhaps you agree on a certain number of sessions per month or require the child to ask permission before booking anything. The good news is, since you likely control the payment method, no surprise purchases should happen if you keep an eye on notifications. You’ll get an email receipt for any booking made, so there’s a built-in alert.
Use Built-in Tools: Metafy will send reminders for sessions (emails and Discord - turn on notifications) and has the chat feature for communicating with the Partner. Use these rather than personal texts or DMs on random platforms. Keeping communications on Metafy/Discord means there’s a record and it’s within the sphere we can assist with if needed. If a Partner tries to move the conversation to something like WhatsApp or personal email before booking, consider that a red flag and inform us. There’s usually no good reason to go off-platform for communications related to lessons.
Check Out Community Spaces Yourself: If your child joins a coach’s Community on Metafy, take a look at the posts. If it’s linked to a Discord server and your child joins, ask for an invite too. See what the tone is like. Most communities are chill and moderated, but as with any group chat, culture can vary. You’ll want to ensure the community aligns with your standards. The nice thing: since these are tied to professionals who have reputations to uphold, they tend to keep their communities welcoming and not toxic – it reflects on them, after all.
Leverage Ratings and Support: After a session, discuss with your child how it went and consider leaving a review together. This not only helps the community but if anything was slightly off, you can mention it or decide to try a different coach next time. If something seriously wrong happens (which is rare, thankfully), you have the support team ready to step in. Save any relevant evidence (chat messages, etc.) and report the incident. We’ll act swiftly to address it.
Balance Gaming and Life: A bit beyond Metafy’s scope, but we care about it: make sure Metafy complements your child’s gaming and doesn’t turn it into pressure. The goal is to have fun while improving. Keep an eye that they’re not getting too stressed or overly competitive due to lessons. A good teacher will foster a positive mindset. Feel free to communicate with the Partner about what you want out of the lessons (e.g., “I want my child to build confidence and teamwork skills, not just win tournaments”). They can tailor their approach knowing a parent’s perspective.
Stay Informed: We continually update Metafy with new features and sometimes new safety measures. Keep an eye on our emails or Help Center announcements. For instance, if we roll out a feature for parental accounts or new community moderation tools, we’ll announce it. We love feedback too – if you as a parent have ideas or concerns, tell us! We are building this platform for families as much as for individual gamers.
FAQs for Parents
FAQs for Parents
Q: What ages is Metafy appropriate for?
A: Metafy itself doesn’t have a strict age rating – it really depends on the game and the child’s maturity. We have users as young as 8-10 years old taking lessons (with parental oversight) and plenty of teenagers and adults. If your child is under 13, you must be involved. For teens 13+, Metafy can be used independently, but we still encourage parents to stay engaged. Choose Partners/games accordingly. When in doubt, start with an all-ages friendly title or talk to the Metafy Partner about your concerns.
Q: Do the Metafy Partners have background checks?
A: We do not currently run formal criminal background checks on our Partners (many are international, and there’s no unified system for that). However, they are generally public figures in the gaming scene – they often have a presence on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, etc. We (and the community) keep an eye on their reputation. A Partner who had known issues or misconduct in the community likely wouldn’t last on Metafy due to feedback and reporting. For extra peace of mind, you can do a quick online search of their handle to see their content and how they present themselves. Many have extensive content out there you can review. And remember, you or your child can end a session anytime if you feel uncomfortable. You can always choose not to re-book someone who didn’t meet your expectations. If anything egregious happened, let us know and we’ll take action.
Q: Can I talk to the coach directly?
A: Absolutely! You can message any creator on Metafy before booking – this is a great way to introduce yourself and ask questions. For instance, you might say, “Hi Coach, I’m the parent of a 12-year-old who’s interested in lessons. He’s shy, but eager to learn. Do you have experience coaching kids? Also, are you okay if I listen in on the sessions at first?” Almost all Partners will respond positively to this (if one doesn’t respond or seems annoyed, that’s a sign they might not be the right fit). Open communication is encouraged. After booking, you’ll also have a chat thread for that coach where you can coordinate session details or ask for feedback on progress. Many Partners will happily give you a short debrief after lessons if you ask – like a mini progress report.
Q: How does scheduling and rescheduling work?
A: When you book, you choose a time slot that the Partner has available. It will convert to your local time zone - make sure it's accurate on your settings - so you know when to be ready. If a conflict comes up, both you and the Partner have the ability to request a reschedule through the platform. We recommend giving as much notice as possible. Partners often have a policy on their profile about rescheduling or cancellations (e.g., “24-hour notice required for reschedule”). If your child falls ill or something last-minute happens, communicate with the Partner – most are understanding and will try to find a new time.
If they ever just doesn’t show up, that’s not okay – you can report it and you’re entitled to a refund or a reschedule. Our Refund Policy covers no-shows and other scenarios. Rest assured, you won’t be left out in the cold if a session fails to happen.
Q: How much should I be involved after my kid gets comfortable?
A: This varies. Some parents supervise every session, others step back once they trust the Partner and see their child is benefiting. We do suggest periodically checking in. Maybe you don’t need to listen live every time, but perhaps ask your child to show you a highlight from what they learned, or tell you about the lesson. Maintain open dialogue. Even dropping a friendly message to the Partner once in a while (“Hey, thanks for the last lesson, Jake really enjoyed it!”) can keep you in the loop. If your child is a teenager and values independence, you might negotiate the level of oversight (“I’ll sit in on one session a month” or “I want to be Discord friends with the Partner so there’s a line of communication”). Find a balance that respects your teen’s growing autonomy but still provides you peace of mind.
Q: What if my child just wants to use Metafy to watch content and not do live sessions?
A: That’s fine too! Some kids might be too shy for live coaching but can benefit from guides or simply hanging out in a community of peers. All the same safety rules apply. If they’re just watching guides, that’s like watching any educational video – low risk. If they’re interacting in communities via text, that’s something to supervise similar to any online forum. Encourage positivity and remind them of internet safety 101 (don’t share personal info, etc.). Metafy communities are generally positive spaces (to stay on Metafy they have to be), and they’re smaller than giant Reddit or Discord publics, which actually makes them easier to moderate. That said, it’s good for you to occasionally glance at what discussions are happening, just to be sure it’s all appropriate.
Q: How do payments work? Can my child make purchases on their own?
A: When you book a session or buy content on Metafy, you (or your child) will go through a checkout process. If you’ve saved a card on the account, it could be as simple as one-click confirm. To prevent unsupervised purchases, do not save a card or give your child access to the payment info unless you’re okay with them booking on their own. Perhaps you handle the payment step each time (you can do this remotely if you have the login; your child can select the session and time, then you come in to enter the card details). Metafy will send an email receipt to the account’s email every time a purchase is made, so you’ll know. We don’t have a built-in “require parent approval” feature yet, so use your own safeguards (like not sharing your credit card or adding a PIN if you let them use your card). On the plus side, there are no microtransactions or sneaky loot boxes here – just straightforward lesson fees or content purchases that are clearly listed. If an accidental purchase happens, contact us and we’ll sort it out (our refund policy is customer-friendly, especially for obvious mistakes or kids-misclicking scenarios).
Q: I have concerns about online interaction in general. Convince me this is okay.
A: It’s completely normal to be concerned – you’re a good parent for that! Here’s why Metafy is a cut above general online gaming interactions:
Structured Environment: Unlike random voice chat in a game lobby, a Metafy session is a scheduled, structured lesson. The Partner has a plan, and there’s a goal (learning/improvement). This tends to keep things focused and respectful.
Accountability: Everyone on Metafy has an account with a history. Partners are essentially freelancers running a small business on the platform – they have huge incentive to maintain a good reputation. They’re not going to act like toxic trolls because that would end their coaching gig and affect their income. Likewise, students have accounts tied to their email; if someone misbehaves, we can restrict them. There’s far more accountability than in an average multiplayer match where players are anonymous and disposable.
Educational Value: We truly believe gaming can be a positive learning experience. A good teacher will impart more than just game tricks – they teach sportsmanship, perseverance, analytical thinking, even communication skills. We’ve heard from parents that their kids gained confidence and teamwork abilities through Metafy sessions that carried over into school and life. It’s like any extracurricular coached activity (sports, music, etc.) but in the digital realm.
Community and Belonging: For kids who maybe don’t have local friends into the same games, Metafy can be a place to find their tribe in a safer setting. It’s moderated, it has purpose, and it can be much kinder than the wide-open internet. We aim to cultivate communities of champions – people who lift each other up. That sounds idealistic, but it’s genuinely the culture we push for.
At the end of the day, you know your child best. Metafy is here as a tool and resource. You control how it’s used in your household. Some parents use it as a reward system (“earn a lesson by finishing your chores” – hey, whatever works!). Others integrate it into homeschooling. And some use it as safe socialization for kids who aren’t into traditional team sports but love competition. We’re happy to play any of those roles.
