Instagram users tend to be younger and more active than social media users in general, and they’re also more visual. Those traits are shared by gamers, so it makes sense to establish a presence on Instagram.

Tips for Building Your Brand and Attracting Students

  • Set Up a Business Account.
A business account has more features, such as a call-to-action button on your profile, that will help get students to your Metafy. It also sets you apart from casual gamers.

    • If you don’t have an account, you’ll want to download the app and tap Create New Account, and go through the steps.

    • If you do have an account, log in.

    • Go to your profile and tap the icon in the top right.

    • Tap Settings, then Account, then Switch to Professional Account.

    • From there you can choose Business.

  • Post Content that’s Cool to Look At.
Instagram users want to see amazing, or funny, or even just interesting images. Consider posting things like:

    • Photos of you gaming, and at tournaments.

    • In-game screenshots, whether they’re epic or funny or just dumb.

    • Memes about games or gaming. They don’t have to look fancy -- in fact, amateurish memes tend to draw better traffic.

    • Screenshots of your posts on Twitter or other social media.

    • Short gameplay videos (video posts are limited to 60 seconds).

  • Use #Hashtags.
Instagram is incredibly hashtag-oriented, and hashtags are key to getting your content in front of people who might not otherwise see it. If you don’t like the visual clutter of hashtags (and if you’re going to cross-share your Instagram posts to other sites), you can put your hashtags in a reply to your post, rather than in the caption.

    • Reply quickly, because your image gets processed by the Instagram algorithm as soon as you post it.

    • You can add up to 30 hashtags per comment.

  • Link to Your Metafy.
Once you’ve got a business account, you can add a number of details to your Instagram profile. (And even if you don’t have a business account, you can still put your Metafy URL on your profile.)

    • Load the app and tap your avatar on the bottom right.

    • Tap Edit Profile at the top of the screen.

    • Add your Metafy URL (metafy.gg/@YourUsername) in the Website field.

    • Fill in your Bio (you’ve got 150 characters), making sure to mention your game and instruction. You can also add hashtags and @ other accounts.

    • Pick a Category. “Gamer” is one option.

    • Add any additional contact information you like.

    • Click Done.
