Hosting your Event should be as seamless as possible. This guide will prepare you to use OBS to deliver a high-quality experience for your audience.

Why OBS?

While Metafy Events can be browser-only, we recommend using OBS for streaming. OBS ensures a more professional presentation, whether you’re sharing gameplay, slides, or your webcam. Let’s dive in!

Key Benefits of Metafy Events

  1. Automatic Recording: Replays are sent to all paid attendees, even if they miss the live event.

  2. Resale Potential: Event replays will appear on your Metafy page and in discovery for resale.

  3. Fully Customizable: Update details like learning points, start times, and more from My Events in your Studio.

  4. Integrated Features: Interact with attendees via chat and mark questions as answered during the event.

Preparing for Your Event

Pre-Event Checklist:

  1. Ensure OBS is downloaded and installed. Download OBS here.

  2. Optimize OBS settings for streaming:

    • Base & Output Resolution: 1920x1080

    • Rate Control: CBR (Constant Bit Rate)

    • Bitrate: 3,000–6,000 kbps

    • Keyframe Interval: 2 seconds

    • CPU Usage Preset: "Veryfast"

    • Tune: Zerolatency

  3. Familiarize yourself with Metafy’s Event Stage:

    • Accessible 15 minutes before the event.

    • Attendees can join via desktop or mobile.

    • Chat features allow attendees to label messages as Questions or Tips for better organization.

  4. Test your setup by running a mock event.

Setting Up OBS for Metafy

Inputting Metafy as an OBS Source

  1. Open up OBS

  2. Go to File → Settings

  3. Go down to Stream

  4. Change Source to be Custom

At this point, you’d be ready to return to Metafy and grab the needed Server name and Stream Key.

On the day of your Event, your Event Stage will be accessible 15 minutes before the listed Start time. Get your OBS setup to this point, and open up Metafy and navigate to your Event page.

Connect OBS to Metafy

  1. Navigate to your Metafy Events page:

    • Profile Picture > Studio > My Events > Event Live Page > Enter the Classroom.

  2. Enable OBS streaming:

    • Toggle the “Use OBS” switch.

    • Copy the Server name and then Stream Key one at a time, from your Metafy Event Stage, and return to OBS → Source and paste them into their respective fields.

Start the Event

  1. Go ahead and Click Start Event within Metafy

  2. Then click Go Live within OBS

You’re LIVE: Running your Live Event

If you haven’t already, use Chat to put up an announcement, agenda, link to your slides, or encourage people to say hi and engage!

During your Event, don’t feel pressured to focus on chat, if you have a plan to run your materials first, then Q&A, inform people about this and leverage the chat filters during Q&A periods.

In the top right corner you’ll see how much time you’ve been running your event in relation to when it’ll end. You do have the ability to go ‘Overtime’ yet after 75 minutes your Event will automatically end.

‼️ IMPORTANT ‼️

You have to go live on Metafy within 30 minutes past the scheduled time of your Event or it will auto-cancel and refund all your attendees. If the Event is not run on Metafy, we will not be able to provide any post-Event support.
