Hosting your Event should be as seamless as possible. This guide will prepare you to use OBS to deliver a high-quality experience for your audience.

Why OBS?

While Metafy Events can be browser-only, we recommend using OBS for streaming. OBS ensures a more professional presentation, whether you’re sharing gameplay, slides, or your webcam. Let’s dive in!

Key Benefits of Metafy Events

Automatic recording

Every event is recorded, and attendees get access afterward. You can find recordings under My Stuff > Recordings.

Resale potential

Want to keep earning from your event? You can sell the recording separately. Replays appear on your Metafy page and in Discovery for resale.

Fully customizable

Update details anytime — from learning points to start times — right in your Dashboard > Events.

Integrated features

Keep things interactive with built-in chat, and mark questions as answered during the event.

Preparing for Your Event

Pre-Event Checklist:

  1. Ensure OBS is downloaded and installed. Download OBS here.

  2. Optimize OBS settings for streaming:

    • Base & Output Resolution: 1920x1080

    • Rate Control: CBR (Constant Bit Rate)

    • Bitrate: 3,000–6,000 kbps

    • Keyframe Interval: 2 seconds

    • CPU Usage Preset: "Veryfast"

    • Tune: Zerolatency

  3. Familiarize yourself with Metafy’s Event Stage:

Early Access: Attendees can join up to 15 minutes before the event, on desktop or mobile.

Chat Features: Messages can be labeled as Questions or Tips so the chat stays organized and easy to follow.

Backstage for Creators: You’ll get access to a backstage area 15 minutes early to test your setup and make sure everything’s good to go.

Inputting Metafy as an OBS Source

  1. Open up OBS

  2. Enable OBS streaming:

    • Toggle the “Use OBS” switch.

    • Copy the Server name and then Stream Key one at a time, from your Metafy Event Stage, and return to OBS → Source and paste them into their respective fields.

Start the Event

  1. Go ahead and Click Start Event within Metafy

  2. Then click Go Live within OBS

You’re LIVE: Running your Live Event

If you haven’t already, use Chat to put up an announcement, agenda, link to your slides, or encourage people to say hi and engage!

During your Event, don’t feel pressured to focus on chat, if you have a plan to run your materials first, then Q&A, inform people about this and leverage the chat filters during Q&A periods.

In the top right corner you’ll see how much time you’ve been running your event in relation to when it’ll end. You do have the ability to go ‘Overtime’ yet after 120 minutes your Event will automatically end.

  • Example:

    Scheduled time: 2pm

    Duration: 1 hour

    Start time: 1:52pm

    Automatic end time: 3:52pm

‼️ IMPORTANT ‼️

  • You have to go live on Metafy within 30 minutes past the scheduled time of your Event or it will auto-cancel and refund all your attendees. If the Event is not run on Metafy, we will not be able to provide any post-Event support.
